HIST – History division

HIST is the History division of the Sagadii Curriculum. The main focus here is on where we have come from as human beings because, as the saying goes, those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it. There are 8 available classes for this division at this time. New classes will be posted as they become available.

HIST 100 – Anno Mundi Timeline

HIST 101 – Biblical History 1

HIST 102 – Biblical History 2

HIST 103 – Biblical History 3

HIST 100 – Anno Mundi Timeline

Required Materials:

paper for timeline

Prerequisite:

This course is meant to be completed piece by piece in conjunction with all other Biblical History classes.

This is actually a very simple class, at least in some respects. This class has no direct assignments. Get a piece of paper roughly 35 feet long. This paper will be the base for the Anno Mundi (anno meaning “year of” and mundi meaning “earth”, so together they mean Year of the Earth). Anno Mundi is always used in Biblical timelines because it is very specific in the dates from the beginning, and attempting to find exact BC dates would lead to utter confusion. The scale for this timeline is as follows: 1 year = 1/16 of an inch. The entire age of the earth is roughly 6000 years. You should have about 3 feet of paper extra which can be used for notes, scales, or other things of importance. As you go through the other history classes, attempt to place events on the timeline as appropriate. You should start with the creation and end with our current year (or something close to it – turn of the millennium, genome project, etc. It seems overwhelming, and it would be except that it is designed to be used with the other history classes so that this project is really a summation of every single history class offered here at the Sagadii.

HIST 101 – Biblical History 1

Required materials:

Bible (KJV recommended, but not required)

Prerequisite:

---None---

This history class covers Genesis chapters 1-11 (1:1-11:32 specifically). Assignments will consist primarily of reading assignments (as well as AM timeline work stated above, but that technically counts as a separate class). A short test will be administered at the end of the class to test retention. It is suggested that these readings are done with the teacher and student(s) so that discussion can happen as is required by verse, which is better than the student waiting to talk about it later and forgetting about it. Discussion is always encouraged, as this works rather like a catalyst in cementing the information in their minds because they have to actually think about it, and that engages them far more than just reading it.

It is also recommended that, even if you are taking these classes by yourself, whenever you are able you should read aloud. When you read silently, it engages you only once (seeing). If you read aloud, it engages you 3 times (seeing to read, the mouth to speak it, and the ears to hear it). This is not required, but is a suggestion.

Required materials:

Bible (KJV recommended, but not required)

HIST 101 – Biblical History 1

This history class covers Genesis chapters 12-23 (12:1-23:20 specifically). Assignments will consist primarily of reading assignments just like the HIST 101 class. All of these classes are basically set up the same, just with different sets of reading and different tests.

HIST 103 – Biblical History 3

Required materials:

Bible (KJV recommended, but not required)

Prerequisite:

HIST 102 – Biblical History 2
